Gender Creativity
I offer an intimate understanding of what it is like to be outside the norms of gender. In addition to my own experience, I have studied gender and the transgender experience for many years now and regularly work with individuals transitioning from their assigned gender to their true gender. This is usually the biggest decision a person ever makes, and I fully honor the intensive thought, the fear, heartbreak, joy and so much else that goes into making it. Everyone deserves to live a full, embodied life!
In addition to helping people through transition (and beyond), I am fully supportive of any choice a person makes (for any amount of time) that doesn't fit into the binary gender choices we are given by our culture. For many, it is enough to gain clarity about how they have felt different, and to decide how to label or NOT to label themselves.
About 60% of my current clients tend to be gender expansive. I can help with practical decisions, local resources and making a plan for social and/or medical transition if that's what a person chooses. I am happy to provide therapy with the goal of writing a recommendation for hormones or surgery if an endocrinologist or surgeon requires one (or two).
If all you need is a letter of recommendation for surgery, that's fine, too. We can meet for 1 or more sessions, just enough for me to get the information I need to write the letter.
I can also provide support, education and general therapy for family members and partners of gender expansive people.
I am a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). I regularly attend professional trainings and conferences and consult with other practitioners on the subject of gender and transitioning. I am also a founding member of a consultation group for local therapists who work with transgender clients. I have given a number of trainings to local agencies and organizations on the topic and I help produce the TransLife Conference annually.
I am happy to talk with you further about your specific circumstances and what I can do to help.
